Maybe now we know why politicians in Washington, D.C. can’t seem to get a handle on the national debt: They struggle with simple math.
During her weekly press conference today, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi froze as she attempted to do a simple math problem in her head.
Pelosi suffered her usual brain freezes and face spasms.
After having trouble saying “prescription drug prices,” she confused the debt with the deficit.
“The president was going to reduce the debt, the Republicans were going to reduce the deficit, reduce the national debt,” she said.
“The Republicans are meeting on immigration,” she said moments later, calling illegal immigrants “patriotic,” continuing, “Lord knows what will come out of that — hopefully the Lord knows,” throwing her hands into the air.
“We’re been praying very hard on it.”
Then she had trouble with numbers.
Believing Democrats will be successful in the November elections, she said she’s like to “also point out the intensity factor that is out there. Democrats are maybe 15 points, something like 63 to, um,” she said trailing off and staring at reporters.
A voice off camera, either an aide or a reporter jumped in with “47.”
“47, is it?” she said in response.
Never mind it should have been 48.
“I’ve had concerns about China in three areas,” she said moments later. “Uh, the, certainly the disparate, the,” she said before pausing and staring. “Our trade deficit with China which is enormous,” she continued.
Fumbling her China analogy, she said, “We have to ride the drag— the China tiger,” before having trouble saying “shining.”
“The prac— fact is,” she said later, before getting tongue-tied trying to say “wages rising.”
“It’s about rages, uh, wages rising in our country,” Pelosi said.
Her final face spasm of the appearance came as she tried to say “consumer confidence.”
When will Democrats finally attempt to figure out what is wrong with Nancy Pelosi?
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said at her press briefing today that although unemployment is down, government dependency is not--and that wages must rise.
CNSNews.com asked Pelosi: “The unemployment rate in May was 3.8 percent—the lowest it has been in 18 years. Is that good news?”
Pelosi said: “Well, as I said, unemployment rate is one indication. The fact is, and this has happened before, that people say: Oh my goodness, that people are saying the unemployment rate is down, why isn’t my purchasing power increasing?
“So, this isn’t just about the unemployment rate, it’s about wages rising in our country, so that consumer confidence is restored,” she said. “Because our economy will never fully reach its possibilities unless we increase the consumer confidence and that can only be increased by a better deal, better jobs, better wages, better future, and lowering costs to families--whether its prescription drugs, by really lowering the cost of prescription drugs--and that list goes on.”
“This is one unusual time and I follow it closely, where the unemployment rate is down, but the dependence on subsidies, food insecurity, housing subsidies, and the rest, has not gone down because of the wage stagnation," she said.
"So, in terms of the national stability of America’s working families," said Pelosi, "unless we have an increase--a very significant increase in wages--bigger paychecks, we are going to increase the frustration of America’s families because they’ll be saying: Hip, hip hooray, unemployment is down! What does that mean to me in my life? I need a bigger paycheck.’ That’s the apprehension American families have had for a while and continue to have and we must address.”
“So, when we’re talking about this, it’s not increase more jobs so that we can subsidize more low-paying jobs by public investment, housing support, food support and the list goes on,” said Pelosi. “But to have living wages for people, justice, economic justice, social justice. Justice, it’s a very important value that America has.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the last time unemployment was as low as the 3.8 percent it hit may was in April 2000, when it was also 3.8 percent.

On Wednesday, federal Judge Michael Baylson of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled that President Donald Trump cannot cut off grants to Philadelphia over the way they handle illegal immigrants.
Baylson, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote that Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions' "public statements... asserting that immigrants commit more crimes than native-born citizens, are inaccurate as applied to Philadelphia, and do not justify the imposition of these... conditions."
On Wednesday, media outlets began reporting of a draft Justice Department Inspector General report floating around that was highly critical of former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. But come Thursday evening, both CBS and NBC failed to mention it even though they each had the opportunity to report the development during two of evening broadcasts and their morning shows. The IG report was said to have found that Comey was warned not to notify the public he reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s e-mails in October 2016, but he did it anyway. Of course, ABC, which was the only network to mention the news, pounced on it to push the suggestion it might have had an influence on the outcome of the election.
During ABC’s first report, on Wednesday evening’s World News Tonight, chief Justice correspondent Pierre Thomas somberly went through the timeline of that dreary day for Clinton: “Hillary Clinton was on a flight to Iowa when it happened. FBI Director James Comey revealing he had reopened the investigation into her e-mails, a stunning October surprise just 11 days before the election. (…) Clinton huddled with aides for nearly an hour. (…) President Trump, now one of Comey's biggest critics, at the time, heaped praise on the director.” -- All that before getting to what the report found. (…)
SANDERS: "You have people hounding doctors about what kind of medicine they should be able to use. So forth and so on. Will those people lose their jobs when we have healthcare-for-all guaranteed through a single payer system? The answer is, yes. On the other hand, we have a lack of doctors in this country, a lack of nurses, a lack of nurse practitioners, a lack of dentists. We are an aging population. We need more people working with our older people. We’ll create more jobs under a rational Medicare-for-all system than it currently exists. There will be a transition just in the same way as we have to transform our energy system away from fossil fuel. We create more jobs, but there will be pain and you got to deal with that pain."
New Canaan, Connecticut – ‘For Sale’ signs will soon be a thing of the past on homes in New Canaan, Connecticut. A six-month trial ban starts July 1, meaning those signs you see in front of houses will have to be taken down. The New Canaan Board of Realtors voted in favor of the ban, saying prospective home buyers aren’t driving around town anymore. Instead, they’re researching online. “Most people recognize they’re not really contributing to the sale of the home,” said Joe Scozzafava, a realtor at William Raveis. “With the buyers that we’re dealing with, who are mostly millennials, who are very tech-savvy.” The board also said the signs take away from the beauty of New Canaan and the rest of Connecticut. “I find it to be a little tacky and it doesn’t look so great,” homeowner Priscilla Rossi said. “The amount of them is giving buyers an idea that this entire town is for sale,” said resident Shawn Gardner.
But not everyone agrees with eliminating the signs all together and enjoy their subtle appeal. “They’re not super advertising companies,” Rachel Palacios said. “I think they’re nice to know what’s going on,” said Jenny Goldstein. Ron Marks said he wouldn’t have found his dream home without a lawn sign. “It had a generic for sale sign by broker, with a phone number, which I called, followed up on and ended up buying the house,” he said. The board said it has been talking about the ban for years, evening thinking it may become a trend. “There are already sellers who request no signs in front of their homes because they don’t think it adds to the beauty,” said Lori Kelly, executive officer of the New Canaan Board of Realtors. Once the ban is over, they’ll see whether it helped or hurt the local real estate market. It the pilot succeeds, they may try to make it permanent. The board said a similar ban has been working in nearby Greenwich.

A judge sentenced a California mother to life in prison Thursday and gave her boyfriend the death penalty in the "beyond animalistic" killing of the woman's 8-year-old son, who prosecutors say was punished because the couple believed he was gay.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge George Lomeli told the couple that he hopes they wake up in the middle of the night and think of the injuries they inflicted on 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez of Palmdale.
"I can only wish ... that it tortures you," the judge said.
Gabriel was repeatedly beaten, starved, tied up, locked in a cabinet, shot with a BB gun and once had his teeth knocked out with a bat, the judge said.
The boy also had a fractured skull, broken ribs and burns across his body.
"It goes without saying that the conduct was horrendous and inhumane and nothing short of evil," Lomeli said. "It's beyond animalistic because animals know how to take care of their young."
Gabriel's mother, 34-year-old Pearl Fernandez, pleaded guilty to murder in February in the death of her son. A jury found her boyfriend, 37-year-old Isauro Aguirre, guilty of murder last year and found that he intentionally tortured the boy.

"Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski said Thursday she was recently told President Donald Trump is upset that he can't watch pornography in the White House.
"I know someone who spoke to Donald Trump recently about life in the White House, and Donald Trump's biggest complaint was that he's not allowed to watch porn in the White House," Brzezinski said. "So there you go. There's a little bit of news for you. He's upset that he can't watch porn in the White House."
Brzezinski's remark caused host Stephanie Ruhle to double over in laughter. Brzezinski made a rare appearance on Ruhle's 9:00 a.m. program that immediately follows "Morning Joe" to address remarks made by Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani about Stormy Daniels.
Brzezinski was furious over Giuliani's remarks that he didn't "respect" Daniels, the porn actress who claims she had sex with Trump in 2006 and received a $130,000 hush payment from Trump attorney Michael Cohen before the 2016 election.
"I don't respect a porn star the way I respect a career woman or a woman of substance or a woman who … isn't going to sell her body for sexual exploitation," Giuliani said at an event in Tel Aviv.
Brzezinski blasted the former New York mayor as a "pig" on "Morning Joe," and she continued to castigate him on Ruhle's show.
"They made my blood boil. I was shaking when I heard them," she said of Giuliani's comments.
It marks another chapter in the now broken relationship between Trump and the hosts of "Morning Joe," who were overly friendly to his campaign when he sought the Republican nomination throughout 2015 and the beginning of 2016. Now Brzezinski and co-host Joe Scarborough are among the president's fiercest critics in the media, at times labeling him mentally unstable, unfit for office, and akin to a dictator.
